Hello Fall

Fall2013colors

Fall2013colors

The moody colors of fall and winter are finally starting to pop up here in southern California. The overcast grays, the navy nights and the dark brown grounds of the season have me ready for the lights of a fireplace and the comfort of a hot coco. Anyone else ready for the start of the fall season?…Happy Weekend Everyone!

Decor Files: Glam Entryway

Glam Entryway

Glam Entryway

Entryways can be a bit tricky to decorate. Since the entry is the first thing you see when you get home, I would advise doing something bold that will bring a smile to your face when you open the door. If you are looking to create a sophisticated and vibrant entryway that isn’t bashful about mixing patterns then give this look a try…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Three Entryway Must Haves

1. Mirror:

Since the entry is the last stop on your way out the door, take the opportunity to give yourself one more check before you head out on the town.

2. Lighting:

For some strange reason I hate coming home to a dark apartment. Having a bit of lighting available within arm’s reach is always a plus. I would even go as far as suggesting you get one of these gadgets. I love my Belkin WeMo motion sensor. I feel super glam when the lights just come on as soon as I open the door. Talk about making an entrance!

3. Console:

Unfortunately I need somewhere to put my bill pile. A console is also a great place to put your handbag while you slip out of your shoes.

Garden Party

gardenparty

gardenparty

The summer months are fast approaching and I can’t wait. The bold floral prints we love so much are starting to pop up everywhere. I saw this “Copley” armchair by  CR Laine in the new issue of Traditional Home and instantly thought of hosting a garden party. The only problem is, I don’t have a garden or a fabulous dining room with a view. If I did, the above image is what it would look like this summer. All about the green glam. So, what are your summer decorating ideas?

1. Copley Chair 2. Reed & Barton Majesty Flatware Set 3. Vixen Polished Pendant Light 4. Damask Wallpaper 5. Toscane Dining Table

Geek Chic

geekchic

I’m all for embracing my inner geek. In fact, the other day I totally Geeked out when I saw the new Star Trek trailer. Granted Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch played a big role in that. Hey, a girl knows a chic geek when she sees one. No wonder this trend is spilling over into the interior design world. From Nintendo tables to scrabble pillows, “Geek Chic” is taking the design world by storm and I’m loving it. Now I can totally justify buying that life size cardboard cutout of William Shatner as Captain Kirk I saw at the thrift store a few weeks back. The beauty about this style is that you don’t have to add too much geek. Just a few well placed pieces here and there to incorporate the whimsy. My design style tends to have a whimsy side anyway so I’m a big fan of this trend. To tell you the truth, I think I’ve been rocking this style since 1985. I did after all own a Steve Urkel doll and several posters. But enough about me, what do you think? Is this trend here to stay or has it always been around?

Get The Look: Nuts & Bolts Cufflinks

cuff

I was on Pinterest the other day when I can across these Nuts & Bolts cufflinks by Verdura. They are really cute and perfect for anyone in the design/construction industry. But that $6,500 price tag is not very appealing. Being the crafter that I am, I took a trip to my local hardware store yesterday and bought a set of four brass 1/4″-20 screws and 1/4″-20 bolts. My total came out to less than $3 for pretty much the same look. Hope you guys enjoy this quick DIY project. Please let me know if you have any questions.
