2014 Color Of The Year: Radiant Orchid

ct-pantone-color-of-year-20131206-001“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®….Hmmm not 100% sure I’m feeling this color. What do you think, are you all about the Radiant Orchid in your home during 2014?…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Around The Table

Table1Just a couple of days left before we are in full entertaining mode. Do you have your tablescape planned for Thanksgiving? Are ideas already dancing around your head for your Christmas Shindig? Here are a few festive tablescape ideas that have caught my eye. The above image from whimsical home and garden shows a wonderful way for your guest to take part in the true meaning of Thanksgiving. This DIY place mat is sure to be a hit.

For Christmas, using mini dollar store stockings to hold utensils is an amazing way to dress up your x-mas table. You can take it to the level by adding a little treat inside.

For a New Year celebration, decorating with a champagne or wine cork is a must. Using said cork as a place holder is just all kinds of fabulousness.

You can use some of our beautiful textiles to dress up your table this holiday season. The combo of Jessica and Cleo create a lovely Christmas setting that your guest are sure to rave about.

And to bring in the New Year, this Grady and Fletcher duo is perfect for New Year wishes and champagne dreams…Happy Entertaining Everyone!

Working It

There is something very calming and relaxing about this study designed by Interior Designer John Willey. The over size art work and black lacquered walls give the room a whimsical feminine and masculine touch. The lightly colored accents keep the black walls from making the space feel dark and scary. I’m not sure how much studying I would get done in this room. It seems more like a great place to curl up and watch tv. And if I were a teenager it would be the most awesome makeout spot. I want to lounge and have a glass of Bourbon in it. I just won’t be working in the space. So what do you think, best place to lounge or best place to work? …Happy Decorating Everyone!

Apartment Facelift

20131112-083506.jpgRight now I’m in the process of giving my apartment a long overdue redo. This past weekend I added some faux trim to our living room/dining/office area. Will post more pictures once the facelift is complete.

20131112-085504.jpgIn the bedroom the stripes have been replaced with a deep blue. The gray and white stripes were lovely while they lasted but it was nice to add a warm rich color for a change.

20131112-085807.jpgThe entryway has also seen a dramatic change. The gray gold polka dot walls are now a vibrant orange. I love the way this color makes me feel when I enter the apartment. I’m hoping to have everything completed before the Holiday season is in full swing. Do you have any plans to redecorate this Holiday season? If so, please share!!…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Hello Fall

The moody colors of fall and winter are finally starting to pop up here in southern California. The overcast grays, the navy nights and the dark brown grounds of the season have me ready for the lights of a fireplace and the comfort of a hot coco. Anyone else ready for the start of the fall season?…Happy Weekend Everyone!

Decor Files: Glam Entryway

Glam Entryway

Glam Entryway

Entryways can be a bit tricky to decorate. Since the entry is the first thing you see when you get home, I would advise doing something bold that will bring a smile to your face when you open the door. If you are looking to create a sophisticated and vibrant entryway that isn’t bashful about mixing patterns then give this look a try…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Three Entryway Must Haves

1. Mirror:

Since the entry is the last stop on your way out the door, take the opportunity to give yourself one more check before you head out on the town.

2. Lighting:

For some strange reason I hate coming home to a dark apartment. Having a bit of lighting available within arm’s reach is always a plus. I would even go as far as suggesting you get one of these gadgets. I love my Belkin WeMo motion sensor. I feel super glam when the lights just come on as soon as I open the door. Talk about making an entrance!

3. Console:

Unfortunately I need somewhere to put my bill pile. A console is also a great place to put your handbag while you slip out of your shoes.
