Trend Watch: Sheepskin Bench

furbench

furbench2

Nothing says warm and fuzzy like a sheepskin bench. Our increasingly long winters have most of us reaching for the comfort and warmth of texture. Even I find myself rolling around on my flokati a bit more and it’s not that cold here in Cali. So it comes as no surprise that we’ve been seeing a lot more of these sheepskin benches. What I want to know is, will these benches last during the summer months? Once it’s all hot and sticky outside I for one am not trying to see any kind of fur. So what do you think, is this a two season only trend? Happy decorating everyone…xoxo Typhanie

Trend Watch: Quatrefoil

Quatrefoil

101According to Traditional Home Magazine “The quatrefoil evokes good fortune and great design”. This is a wonderful design motif that can easily fit into any decorative scheme. This pattern has been around for ages but apparently it’s coming back into fashion in the upcoming seasons. I really love this design because it’s bold without being too in your face. You can dress it up or down depending on your color scheme or the items it is used on. The trend as of late is to use it in a more traditional elegant setting. Think Ancient! If you are looking to add some good design and fortune to your home make sure to check out our Frank pattern. Available in fabrics, pillows and wallpaper…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Bone of Contention

Bone

Bone

I’m never one to argue when I see a fabulous product. In fact, as someone who designs products herself I can appreciate all the blood, sweat and tears that goes into bringing ones creation to life. And as you may know I’m all for buying what you love, trend or no trend. But what really spins my head sometimes is the gap between fab and ridiculous. For instance, I’ve seen these wishbone paperweights all over the place. I think it’s an amazing home accessory and if you are a dreamer like me, it’s something inspiring to have in your office. I want one! I want to look at it every day and remember that wishes do come true. So on my journey to find “The” wishbone I came across one for $48 and one for $58 and then one for $3,950…Whoooat! Don’t get me wrong I know luxe when I see it but $3,950? As a decorator I’m happy to say price tags like these for what the product is still make me a bit light headed. Yes, in my head I know the difference in quality between a $48 product and a $3,950 product but the real questions is, do I know it in my heart?…Happy Decorating Everyone!

Geek Chic

geekchic

I’m all for embracing my inner geek. In fact, the other day I totally Geeked out when I saw the new Star Trek trailer. Granted Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch played a big role in that. Hey, a girl knows a chic geek when she sees one. No wonder this trend is spilling over into the interior design world. From Nintendo tables to scrabble pillows, “Geek Chic” is taking the design world by storm and I’m loving it. Now I can totally justify buying that life size cardboard cutout of William Shatner as Captain Kirk I saw at the thrift store a few weeks back. The beauty about this style is that you don’t have to add too much geek. Just a few well placed pieces here and there to incorporate the whimsy. My design style tends to have a whimsy side anyway so I’m a big fan of this trend. To tell you the truth, I think I’ve been rocking this style since 1985. I did after all own a Steve Urkel doll and several posters. But enough about me, what do you think? Is this trend here to stay or has it always been around?

Trend Watch: Gold

Sparkle and bling are two of my favorite words. So the new gold rush in design has made me very happy. Granted gold has been in interior design forever (i.e. anything named Louis) but this is the first time in a long while that it has made such a big push. With most home owners wanting a comfortable home that is more kid friendly, gold has sadly taken a back seat. So, what do you think? Are you all for gold sparkling up our live or are you sticking to a more subdued palette?…Happy Decorating Everyone!
