Hi Everyone! It’s Julie here from Belle Maison and I’m excited to share with you 5 trends that I think will be hot in 2013. Enjoy and a big thank you to Typhanie for having me as a guest!
Brass has been popping up in the world of design over the past few years, but it’s definitely become popular and on trend more recently. I think we should expect to see much more of this warm golden finish in 2013 – look for it in accessories, mirrors, accent furniture and lighting. Brass has definitely become a favorite metal of mine and I especially love mixing it with other metallic finishes like brushed nickel and silver.
2. Bold Floral Prints
Classic floral prints are making a comeback but in a fresh way! They’re being recreated on a crisp white background, which instantly gives a dated print a modern update. Be prepared to see floral patterns, small and large scale, against fresh white backdrops. This is a nice change from the bold geometric and ikat prints we’ve been seeing over the last couple years.
3. Decorated Walls
Wallpaper continues to be a popular trend and in 2013, it will become even stronger. Textures such as grasscloth and fabric will be used to dress up walls, along with bold geometric prints and classic motifs. Wallpaper is an excellent way to create a dramatic focal point in a space as an accent wall, on the ceiling or on all walls. There are endless ways to incorporate this trend into your home!
4. Color Trends: Green and Yellow
Green is a color that we haven’t seen a whole lot of over the last couple years, so I think it will be making its way back into home décor and fashion this year. Look for a variety of shades from forest to spring green and everything in between. Yellow is also on the horizon as a wonderfully vibrant accent color that can be paired with just about any other color. It adds energy and life to a space and looks great used in small or large doses!
5. Boho Luxe
I definitely think bold patterns and vibrant colors will continue to be big in the new year, however, I also predict that warm neutrals will come into play. With all of the color we’ve been living with, people will start craving interiors that are natural, organic and comfortable. Boho Luxe can be described as a mix of eclectic and charming accents (think Etsy) paired with warm organic woods and soft neutral fabrics.
